چکیده

The Radiation Monitor (RADOM) payload is a miniature dosimeter-spectrometer onboard Chandrayaan-1 mission for monitoring the local radiation environment in nearEarth space and in lunar space. RADOM measured the total absorbed dose and spectrum of the deposited energy from high energy particles in near-Earth space, en-route and in lunar orbit. RADOM was the first experiment to be switched on soon after the launch of Chandrayaan-1 and was operational till the end of the mission. This paper summarizes the observations carried out by RADOM during the entire life time of the Chandrayaan-1 mission and some the salient results.

Moon Mineralogy Mapper/Chandrayaan-1. Moon Mineralogy Mapper (M) is one of eleven instruments selected to fly onboard India’s Chandrayaan-1 spacecraft in 2008. M, selected as a NASA Discovery Mission of Opportunity in May, 2004, is a high spatial and spectral resolution spectrometer that will help scientists better understand the compositional variation of the Moon’s surface. Ms overall science...

Active moon: evidences from Chandrayaan-1 and the proposed Indian missions

Chandrayaan-1, the polar Lunar orbiter mission of Indian Space Research Organization, successfully carried out study of Moon’s environment and surface processes for a period of about nine months during 2008–2009. The results obtained by the mission established (i) A tenuous but active hydrosphere (ii) Volcanically active and geologically dynamic Moon and (iii) Global melting of Moon’s surface r...

Introduction to special section on the Earth-Moon-Mars Radiation Environment Module

[1] The United States is preparing to return humans to the Moon and is setting the stage for exploration to Mars and beyond. However, it is unclear if long missions outside of low-Earth orbit (LEO) can be accomplished with acceptable risk. The central objective of the NASA Living With a Star Earth-Moon-Mars Radiation Environment Module (EMMREM) is to develop and validate a numerical module for ...

A New Time-dependent Model for the Martian Radiation Environment

Introduction: Manned space activities have been until present time limited to the near-Earth environment, most of them to low Earth orbit (LEO) scenarios, with only some of the Apollo missions targeted to the Moon. In current times most human exploration and development of space (HEDS) activities are related to the development of the International Space Station (ISS), and therefore take place i...

Lunar opposition effect as inferred from Chandrayaan-1M3 data

[1] The shadow-hiding and coherent backscattering enhancement mechanisms are considered to be the major contributors to the brightness opposition effect of the Moon. However, the actual proportions of the mechanisms at different phase angles still remain not well determined. In order to assess the lunar phase function across small phase angles, we utilize imaging spectrometer data acquired by t...
